How do I sign up and get my cattle certified?
An initial site visit from a Virginia Cattlemen’s Association representative is the first step. At this meeting, the details of the program will be explained and forms will be provided.
How does the process work?
- Initial site visit by VCA representative to inspect facility.
- Complete VA Verified BEEF application and form(s)
- Process cattle at eligible facility where VA Verified label is applied
- Market VA Verified BEEF.
Can cattle I buy be eligible for the program?
Yes, but the responsibility is on the owner of the cattle at the time of harvest to prove the requirements of each certification stage have been met.
Where can I get my cattle processed?
Virginia Cattlemen’s Association will provide and continuously update a list of eligible processors where the Virginia Verified Beef label can be applied. You will need to provide a copy of the signed affidavit form to the processor at the time of harvest and then ensure that Virginia Cattlemen’s Association receives a copy of the completed form. Up to 35 cattle may be verified per form.
What if I operate across state lines?
A waiver form can be submitted for review from VDACS. These will be considered on a case-by-case basis in keeping with the spirit of the program. A lack of processing capacity in Virginia, proximity to the state line and other relevant factors can be considered in the analysis. Keep in mind, this is a program to equally support and promote every segment of Virginia’s beef supply chain, so waiver requests are not guaranteed.
